REGENCY-SUPERIOR OFFICIAL AUCTIONEER
St. Louis, Missouri – Regency-Superior is proud to be the official auctioneer for SESCAL Stamp Show 2007, the annual stamp exhibition of southern California. The stamp show will be held October 12-14 at the Radisson Los Angeles Airport Hotel. Nearly 2,500 lots will be offered over a two-day session featuring USA, British and Worldwide singles & sets, postal history, and collections.
Regency-Superior will conduct two additional sessions prior to SESCAL featuring early aviation and space memorabilia, plus 200-lots of miscellaneous collectibles and autographs of celebrities and politicians, a selection of Swarvoski crystal, Judaica material, plus cigarette and stereoscopic picture postcards. This first session includes a section of space stamp and cover varieties.
One of the highlights is the 1974 Skylab 10˘ vertical pair (Scott #1529var) imperf horizontally. Only two pairs exist making this an extremely rare space topical stamp. Regency-Superior estimates this pair at $12,000.
Regency-Superior’s first SESCAL session will be held Saturday, October 13th at 6pm (PT) as the show closes, and will feature better USA singles and sets. This session begins with newly Graded Stamps, a
great selection of Classics, scarce varieties, coils and line pairs, including a scarce USA 1908 1˘ Franklin (Scott #318). This rare horizontal coil pair is a magnificent copy, and is an extremely fine gem for this notoriously off-centered issue. Accompanied with a 2006 PF cert, this stamp catalogs $16,500.
This session also features many Zeppelins, Officials, Newspapers, and other Back of the Book material including the scarce Buffalo Balloon stamp (Scott #CL1). This balloon stamp was produced privately by John Lillard for use on balloon ascension of June 18, 1877 that began at Nashville and landed at Gallatin, TN. This copy has large margins, rich color, and is unused. Fresh and very fine in appearance, Regency-Superior estimates this item at $3,500.
Regency-Superior’s second SESCAL session will be held Sunday, October 14th at 10am (PT) and will feature USA plate blocks, Revenues, Possessions, Foreign singles, and all of the covers and postal history. There is an incredible holding of Canal Zone stamps and varieties from the Alan Fergusen
collection with the proceeds going to the APS. One of the highlights of the Canal Zone section is the famous Missing Bridge error (Scott #157a). Only one pane of 50 was issued of the silver (bridge) omitted, and Regency-Superior is offering it as four separate singles or as a corner block of four (sum bid maximum). This desirable, rare block of four is estimated at $35,000.
Regency-Superior is pleased to be offering the award-winning exhibit entitled “The Sun Never Sets on Mickey Mouse”. This 12-frame exhibit put together by eminent philatelist Ken Lawrence, is offered intact featuring scarce Walt Disney related covers, cachets and signatures, and has pleased both judges and crowds at numerous stamp shows around the country since 1992. The oldest items are from the origin of the Disney name, with several covers from Isigny, France. Among the many scarce covers are the better of two known covers of the Disney, Nebraska town cancel, and a Hank Porter drawn Mickey Mouse on cover with unauthorized town cancels Mickey TX, Mouse KY, Donald WI, and Duck NC.
